Dadar Flower Market

I love buying fresh flowers for my house - they look cheerful and brighten up a room instantly. At the recommendation of friend, I trudged to Dadar Flower Market a couple of days back. I had crossed it a thousand times but never ventured into it because it looked too crowded and dirty. Which it was.

But the flowers were gorgeous, the prices were so low that I sometimes felt I had heard wrong :-)

So, see for yourself...

This bunch was for Rs.15/- and I saw another woman bargaining to reduce the price...

I got these three bunches for a total of Rs.20/-

Three bunches again, this time for Rs.10/-

I fell for this lotus, reminded me of Lingaraj Mandir in Bhubaneswar where lotus flowers were given to the God. This was for Rs. 10/-. You can get one for Rs.5/- too but that has fewer petals.

A bunch of ten roses (which normally costs Rs.100/- elsewhere in Mumbai) costs about Rs.15/-.

It is a wholesale market - be careful of people carrying huge sacks of flowers suddenly towering over you. Most shopkeepers don't have the time and if you are the type who stands and stares wherever there are beautiful flowers, you are in trouble - like I was.

Location : Dadar Flower Market, Dadar West.

Grilled Basa Fish with Lemon Butter Sauce

Ever since I have quit my job, I have developed quite a passion for cooking. One dish that I tried out recently is the grilled Basa fish. The fish is mostly available in food stores in packaged format as a fillet. It is boneless and is very soft. I have seen them at Nature's Basket Stores (across Mumbai) and Arctic Circle, Mahim, Mumbai (022-24451407). The sauce is optional and can be served on the side.

Grilled Basa

Marinate the fish with olive oil, salt, ground pepper and garlic paste as per taste for about half an hour.

Preheat the oven to 220 degree C. Bake it for about 10 minutes or till it is slightly golden in colour. Turn the fish and repeat.

Sauce

Soften butter. Add salt, pepper and lemon to taste.

Serve hot.
